As a graduate of Institute of Imaginal Studies, now Meridian University, I received an education that allows me to be a psychological practitioner with deep integrity. I learned about myself as much as I did about depth psychology. This could be the number one aspect that differentiates Meridian from other schools, and separates out those students who flourish at Meridian and those who don't.
What I learned at this school is with me every day when I sit with my clients and especially when I sit with difficult clients. I was encouraged by faculty to explore the difficult parts of myself and so when I am with a difficult client the gap between client and myself as counselor is decreased - this brings my empathy much closer to the surface than it would have been prior to going here.
I also now teach psychology. When I am in the classroom, I strive to reach the depth of instruction I received, however, because I teach at schools that do not integrate their curriculum, it is not possible. The way in which Meridian's courses are laid out to build upon each other speaks to the attention that goes into providing high quality instruction.
Psychology is about deepening relationship to a soulful life with all its pain and glory. Meridian is about training soulful practitioners.
